Sandefjord played out a 0-0 draw with Brann in the Eliteserien on Sunday. The Vestfold side were clearly the better team at home and created the most dangerous chances in a match that finished goalless.
Dagbladet reported that Sandefjord started the match sharper than Brann. In the final quarter of the first half they had several good opportunities, but lacked precision in front of goal. Brann struggled on the road and barely created any offense, instead having to defend against repeated attacks from the hosts.
How did Sandefjord dominate the match?
Sandefjord took control right from the start of the second half. After 55 minutes, Jakob Dunsby sent a powerful header goalwards that struck the crossbar. Substitute Sebastian Holm Mathisen shot just wide a quarter of an hour before the end. Brann's defense worked overtime to keep a clean sheet, while Sandefjord pushed for a winning goal that never arrived.
Brann had injury problems during the match. Eggert Gudmundsson had to be substituted due to injury midway through the second half. About five minutes before the end, Noah Holm limped off the pitch, and Bård Finne came on in his place. These interruptions made it difficult for Brann to find any rhythm in their attacking play.
What did the players say after the match?
Midfielder Oscar Kapskarmo was pleased with the team's effort but frustrated with the result. "A good half. It's the small details that mean we're not ahead," he told Dagbladet. Defender Fredrik Pallesen Knudsen admitted the team needs to improve. "We have to be better on the ball and in our passing game." said Knudsen.
Where does Sandefjord stand in the Eliteserien now?
The draw gives Sandefjord one point and does little to improve their difficult league position. They sit in 12th place with 19 points from 18 games, with an overall record of five wins, four draws and nine losses. The team has scored 15 goals and conceded 23, giving them a goal difference of minus eight. They are a full 25 points behind league leaders Bodø/Glimt.
The last result before this match was a 0-1 loss to KFUM Oslo on August 7th. This draw breaks a negative trend of four consecutive defeats. You can follow the team's position on our standings page.
What awaits Sandefjord in the next match?
The task does not get any easier. Next weekend brings an important home fixture against Viking, who currently sit in a strong second place in the Eliteserien. That match will be played at Jotun Arena on September 4th. To have a chance, Sandefjord must find the finishing precision that was missing against Brann. The entire squad must be ready for a major effort against one of the league's best teams. The match will be a key test of whether the team can turn around their recent form, which in the last five games has been one win and four losses.
